By Ian Goodall - Dr Goodall is the retired Principal of a Senior High School with 1600 students. He has a 1 st Class
Honours Degree in Biology from Queens University and a PhD from the University of Glasgow. Ian’s
talk on the Conquest of Diabetes will explain how, before 1920, diabetes was a fatal condition –
usually killing the child within a matter of months. He will describe how Dr Frederick Banting battled
against the odds and the medical establishment , to isolate insulin and prove that it could alleviate
the symptoms of diabetes.
